Introduction
As we draw the curtains on this semester, many of us may be unsure of the events to attend and places to see this summer. This article will be about the Calgary Stampede, coming July 2023 in Calgary, Alberta.
The Calgary Stampede is a celebration that lasts for ten days. It is a gathering which hosts and entertains visitors coming from many different parts of the world. More than a million people visit Calgary during this time to enjoy some of the countless activities available. The world’s biggest rodeo, with bulls and barrel racing, is just the tip of the iceberg. The excitement is concluded on the tenth night with the Bell Grandstand Show and fireworks!
The Calgary Stampede also hosts one of the largest music festivals in Canada. They also have midway rides and agricultural events that are pleasing to all ages.
Food for everyone
This parade features over 150 western-themed parks, many marching bands, floats, horses and people. It is a chance to celebrate Albertan culture, history and traditions. To achieve this, they have over a 100 food vendors in the festival for the ten days, and have various food choices available for all.
Music festival
The stampede hosts some of the best entertainment, ranging from country music to a variety of others, making it one of the biggest music festivals in the world. This is also the place to discover new artists–and maybe find your next favourite. They have the Coca-Cola Stage, where some of the hottest young artists have performed, like Alessia Cara, and the Virgin Mobile Stampede Series. This is the Soctiabank Saddledome Stage where artists like Luke Bryan, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry have performed.
Rodeo in the afternoon
We are proud to say that the world’s largest outdoor rodeo is that of the Calgary Stampede rodeo. This is where events like bull riding, tie-down roping, and steers wrestling take place. Each day, thousands of fans come to watch the cowboys face off.
There are some females who also join the rodeo as barrel racers, and one to be remembered is Mary Burger. The 67-year-old grandmother in 2016 took on the challenge, overtaking those that were one-third her age.
Rodeo in the evening
The evening event showcases the Bell Grandstand show and GMC Rangeland Derby. The GMC Rangeland Derby is a race with 36 chuckwagons on the track! It is an extraordinary sight to see, with fireworks, performances, dance numbers and much more being performed.
